National Day

On June 6, Sweden celebrates its National Day, commemorating two important moments in the country’s history: the election of Gustav Vasa as king in 1523 and the adoption of the Constitution in 1809.

It’s a day when many Swedes fly their flags and take part in official ceremonies. Many also take the opportunity to visit castles, institutions, or museums open to the public.

Traditionally, Swedish summer specialties are enjoyed on this occasion, such as new potatoes, herring, strawberries, or other typical summer dishes, often with family or friends. It’s a day that blends history and togetherness, in true Swedish style.
